WHAT IS SWEDISH MASSAGE

One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation.

Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body: A combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements, with the application of lotion, to reduce friction on the skin.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The massage table is padded, and has extra attachments and cushions, such as a face cradle, which allows you to lie facedown without turning your head or neck. The table can be heated.

The client will be properly draped while the therapist is working, except for the area being massaged. How much skin the client exposes during your massage is entirely up to her/him. Some people are comfortable wearing very little clothing; others want to feel more covered. If you're uncomfortable at any time, tell your massage therapist.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

• Massage treatment is non-invasive, relaxing and natural. It is therefore generally considered a safe treatment for most people. In case of doubt, please make sure to obtain approval from your medical provider before receiving any form of massage.

• Swedish massage counter indications remain the same as for most techniques, including: Fever, infection, sores or skin problems, cardiac disorders background...

• If at any time during the massage you experience discomfort, tell the therapist immediately.
